Alejo Maglio is a cinematographer from Buenos Aires, currently based in Madrid. He began his career in large-format commercial photography, working with light, cars, and carefully constructed images — an experience that shaped his understanding of composition, texture, and the emotional weight of light. Cinema arrived gradually, through practice, observation, and a sustained interest in the relationship between images and human presence.
Since 2004, he has worked across feature films, documentary, and series, developing a naturalistic approach to cinematography grounded in atmosphere, realism, and visual restraint. Self-taught in his formation as a cinematographer, his work has evolved through hands-on experience, artistic experimentation, and an ongoing dialogue with painting, photography, and the philosophy of the image.
His credits include The Student (dir. Santiago Mitre), which earned him the ADF Award for Best Cinematography; The Delinquents (dir. Rodrigo Moreno), which premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and received Best Cinematography awards from the Argentine Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and the Havana Film Festival; and the Disney+ miniseries Nada (dirs. Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat), starring Luis Brandoni and Robert De Niro. His recent work includes a collaboration with the feature documentary Oasis Live '25 (dirs. Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace) and with filmmaker Wang Bing on ongoing a documentary project.
